Salamanca and the Serra da Estrela, Portugal

On the way ride through the heart of the Picos de Europa!

The Tour starts at Portsmouth where we will meet for introductions before boarding our late afternoon departure on board Brittany Ferries Pont - Aven to Santander. Our early evening arrival on Day One in Spain leaves us sufficient time for our short journey to reach Suances before dark and dinner at our comfortable four star (half board) Tour hotel.

Day Two allows for a leisurely departure for Salamanca with the opportunity for a fabulous ride following the iconic, twisty N-621 through the heart of the Picos de Europa, onwards towards Rhiano. Don’t forget to stop at the Mirador del Corzo, along the Puerto san Gloria for a photograph with the iconic bronze ‘Cantabrian Chamois’ and take in the incredible mountainous views!

Known as Spain’s ‘Golden City’ with important historic, cultural and Romanesque architectural significance, our impressive five star hotel, with underground parking for the bikes, is based just a short walk from the famous ‘Plaza Mayor’. We are based in Salamanca for four (B & B) nights. The perfect opportunity then to explore in the evenings, enjoying the restaurants and bars of this vibrant city after making full use of our three ride out days. Make no mistake this is breathtakingly good, expansive, twisty bike riding country where the roads endlessly sweep through some amazing landscape including the Sierra de Francia, the Arribes Del Duero and the Serra de Estrela in Portugal!

The Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range in Portugal, and a must ride on this trip. It’s a long day out but worth the effort with some fabulous, technical roads providing endless challenging fun. The N-232 between Manteigas and Sao Juliao is a truly amazing ‘rollercoaster’ of a ride, twisting and weaving through a region of truly outstanding natural beauty.

Our return journey to Portsmouth on Day Six leaves Spain in the mid - afternoon, so after relaxed a breakfast we take a direct ride back to Santander from Salamanca in good time to re-board Brittany Ferries Pont-Aven for our overnight crossing back home to Portsmouth. Plenty of time then to catch up with some banter; reflecting on our shared experiences on the riding highlights of our Tour to Salamanca!
