This will be our comfortable base for the next five nights, just a short ride from the heart of the Pico’s de Europa, with the ability to enjoy an all-inclusive buffet meal with wine each evening and a good breakfast to start each days ride out!
This tour is undoubtedly about riding the roads, stunning scenery, wonderful roadside restaurants and great company! Those with an interest in classic bikes will be interested in the Moto Club Classic Indianos Rally event based in and around the town of Colmbres, in fact the ferry times have been specifically scheduled to co-inside with the final weekend of the rally! On Saturday the ‘Bustio-Colombres 12+1 Hill Climb’ for classic racing bikes takes place on a closed road with four classes: the smoking two strokes, the thundering four strokes, the two-cylinder and the exhibition models, with the ‘Classic Motocross Race’ held on the Sunday. The Picos de Europa makes up the central range of the Cantabrian Mountains and without doubt some of the best biking roads in Europe! If you do nothing else just take the N-621 south from Unquera, take a right at Panes and track upwards along the AS-114 towards Cangas de Onis, bend after sweeping bend. Or go further south through Potes and take a right on the CA-185 which takes you up to the cable car at Fuente De in some style!
You have to experience these roads and many more amazing endless routes which twist and turn through stunning mountain vistas to feel the real heart of the Picos and a lasting passion for the region when on a bike! Our return journey to Portsmouth on day six leaves Spain in mid-afternoon, so a relaxed breakfast followed by a coffee or two near the lighthouse in Suances, before making our way back to Santander to catch the Pont-Aven for our overnight crossing back home.
