The Vosges and Black Forest
Not quite the Alps but very nearly!
The Tour starts at Dover where we will meet for introductions and the briefing before catching our morning ferry to Calais. Once in France we will make quick progress to our three* half board overnight hotel in Reims. Day two will be a relaxed but progressive ride to our first tour hotel, through the Alsace region of north eastern France and the Ballons des Vosges Regional Park, where we cross the Rhine into Germany.
Our three* half board, biker friendly hotel is based in the heart of the Black Forest just south of Freudenstadt. Conveniently just a very short distance from the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse or better known as the B500! This fast, winding, curvy scenic road takes you through the very heart of the Black Forest and must rate as one of the most iconic biking roads in Europe!
We are based here for three nights and will enjoy a three course dinner each evening, prepared by our hosts and a good breakfast to start the day. To help relax after a long day on the bike our hotel also includes a spa area with Finish sauna, tepidarium and infrared cabin for its guests. With secure lockable storage for our bikes and drying facilities should we experience some wet weather, then we are all set to explore this amazing biking region of Germany!
Day five will see us ride a short distance back west over the Rhine, for a further three night stay. Our modern, comfortable B&B accommodation is in the heart of Colmar, with its stunning old town, just west of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Park. Here we are perfectly placed to enjoy the Alsace region of north western France with its stunning views and amazing roads!
Including the Route des Cretes , the Grand Ballon and the Col de la Schlucht with wide well surfaced, quick, twisting bends, rarely emerging from the surrounding forest. We will also take a ride to the village of Moussey, with its WWII memorial for those civilians and members of the SAS that were involved and caught up in Operation Loyton during the closing months of the war.
On day eight we leave the Vosges and make our way back to Reims to re-visit our overnight half board hotel, before making our way back to Calais on day nine for an afternoon crossing back to Dover.
