For many years we have wanted to combine all that we think is great about Switzerland and for this year for have joined together two of our best Swiss tours.
Switzerland never fails to please. Photographers have been amazed by the scenery, gourmets have raved over the food, many others have been impressed by the hotels and every one has been excited by the high mountain passes.
First we visit the German speaking part of this spectacular country in a breath taking location at the foot of the awesome Eiger Mountain. From here we can take the famous mountain train to the Jungfraujoch - The Top of Europe lunching in the panoramic restaurant and gasp at the expanse of the Aletsch Glacier, 22 miles long. If this is not enough nearby are the most famous of Swiss passes. From our hotel the ride out will take you to all seven ‘The Magnificent Seven’. Grimsel, Furka, St.Gottard, Nufenen, Lukamanier, Oberalp and Susten. You ride them at your leisure absorb the views and take loads of photographs but if you decide to view the mountains from your hotel room you will miss most of the reason for coming on this tour.
Stage two of the tour takes us into the Italian speaking part to Ticino on the shores of the gracious Lake Maggiore. We have secured a brilliant package in an extraordinary gem of a hotel set amongst the Swiss and Italian lakes of Maggiore, Como and Lugano. Italy and the other lakes are within an easy ride or if you really want to be a tourist the transport system needs to be tried to be believed. If you are like me you will never know whether you are in Switzerland or Italy because the location of the hotel is so close to the border.
In the four days by Lake Maggiore, with our help, you will be free to construct your own daily itineraries. Valley Maggia winds its way through a maze of huge granite forests. Here modern architecture is blended with traditional buildings. At Mogno the newly built church built by Mario Botta out of granite and marble is worth the gracious ride but be warned don’t be too ambitious. The location and hotel offer great facilities and I doubt if you will wander far from base camp.
The nature of the hotel means that each room differs from the next but offers the same high quality facilities including luxury swimming pools inside and out. However to avoid disappointment each room reserved for us has a lake view balcony.
